Chicago

Established in 1995, the Chicago office provides a broad array of services in the fields of litigation, arbitration and alternative dispute resolution, including:
  • reinsurance, insurance, and insurance insolvency

  • commercial litigation

  • accountants' liability

  • financial and securities litigation

  • antitrust

  • international arbitration.
Our practice in Chicago is not only national in scope, but it frequently involves matters with an international reach.  Our lawyers have appeared in courthouses throughout the United States and have particular skill in representing foreign companies in US litigation.  Our experience in disputes with a cross-border dimension is considerable.   As part of a truly global dispute resolution practice, that experience is complemented by the resources to efficiently handle multi-jurisdictional litigation in coordination with Lovells' teams of leading litigators in our offices throughout the world.

The Chicago office is one of the centers of the firm's highly regarded international reinsurance and insurance practice, which we believe has a breadth of expertise that is unrivalled by any other international firm.  Our expertise covers the entire spectrum of insurance and reinsurance related disputes.  We represent insurers and reinsurers in both the Life and Health and Property-Casualty sectors, as well as liquidators and scheme administrators of such companies in insolvency proceedings.

Our US clients include many of the world’s leading insurance and reinsurance companies.  Because the lawyers in the Chicago office act frequently for prominent insurers and reinsurers in London, Europe, and Japan, the office works closely with the insurance and reinsurance teams in New York, London, Germany, Tokyo, and other jurisdictions.  Our Chicago lawyers are leaders in the arbitration of reinsurance disputes.  Other areas of expertise that are integral to reinsurance include insurance insolvency law, agency law (rights and duties of brokers and intermediaries), the law of letters of credit and other forms of security, environmental law, and professional liability law.
