Lovells Worldwide

CHINA

Lovells has offices in Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong. It has been advising clients on doing business in the People's Republic of China since its opening to the West more than 25 years ago. The Lovells' Hong Kong office has been established for more than 20 years. Lovells opened a representative office in Beijing in 1985, and was one of the first five foreign law firms to be licensed to practice international law in Beijing in 1992. Lovells was again among the first international law firms approved following China's entry into the World Trade Organization ("WTO") to establish a second office in Shanghai in 2003.

Since its establishment in 1985, the Beijing office has provided an integrated legal service to clients doing business in the PRC. The Beijing and Shanghai offices of Lovells have three resident partners, three senior consultants and over 20 fee-earners. Together with the other members of the Lovells cross-disciplinary China team in the Hong Kong office and the region, these lawyers provide dedicated and comprehensive business law services in all major practice areas. Our clients include Chinese companies active in domestic and international markets, as well as international clients with interests in China.

The Lovells' China team combines in-depth knowledge of China with extensive legal experience. All members of the China-based team are qualified as lawyers in key foreign jurisdictions (several have a dual qualification in China), are fluent in written and spoken Chinese (in addition to other languages, including French and German) and have years of experience conducting business in China. In addition, the members of the Lovells' China team have extensive experience in their area of specialist legal practice in London, New York, Hong Kong, Los Angeles, Singapore and other international centres. The depth of this true on-shore/off-shore capability is a key point of differentiation in comparison with other domestic or international law firms in China.
