Telecoms Newsletter-Chinese
The telecommunications market continues to evolve at great pace. Alongside the development of new technologies and the convergence of internet, wireless, broadcasting and information technology, regulation is also evolving at an international, regional and national level. As regulation adapts to meet the demands of industry, legal guidance is often needed to navigate through this complex regulatory environment; to influence its development; to advise in relation to the changes that have been made; and to advise on operating under these regimes.
Lovells has been providing regulatory advice in the telecoms sector for many years. As a global team of sector specialists we have in-depth knowledge of the issues affecting both retail and wholesale markets in jurisdictions across Europe and Asia. In Europe, regulation of the telecoms industry has been overhauled by the Telecoms Regulatory package passed in 2002. This has now been implemented in a majority of member states including the UK. We have advised industry and government on aspects of this process and continue to advise on the application of the new regimes.
As well as regulatory work, the group has a strong track record advising on a range of commercial matters including negotiating contracts for the provision of telecoms services for service providers and advising on general commercial issues for major users. As part of a full service firm the group can also draw on the telecoms sector expertise found across other areas of practice including corporate, finance, commercial, employment and dispute resolution (including litigation) services.
