We have extensive experience of the regulatory regimes applicable in many countries around the world. Our work includes advising on energy and utilities legislation, associated regulations and licensing regimes, as well as on competition issues and related financial services regulation.
With the regulation of upstream developments and downstream energy markets varying enormously from country to country, we are able to bring an international perspective to the advice that we provide for our clients. Where the applicable regime is uncertain, perhaps because the rules are changing, we are able to assist in providing a clearer view of the key issues and of the likely impact of changes at an early stage. In countries where we do not have our own office, we are used to working with local counsel to provide our clients with the advice needed, based on our familiarity with the requirements of international projects, transactions and investments.
Our work has included advising industry groups at key stages of the liberalisation of the gas market in Britain (for example, we acted on behalf of all gas shippers when the Network Code was developed), acting for the Singapore Energy Market Authority in relation to liberalisation of the gas market in Singapore, advising a major Norwegian producer on competition issues within Europe, advising on the regulatory regimes applicable within a wide range of various European countries and advising various clients on the Russian regulatory regime.
