Remuneration packages are probably more complex and receive more public scrutiny than ever before.  Packages typically comprise base salary, annual and deferred bonus plans, long term share or cash incentive plans, all employee share plans, pensions and other benefits.

Employee share incentives are an increasingly significant feature of the total remuneration package for employees in many countries. Many jurisdictions now give tax incentives both to employees who participate in such plans and to companies which adopt them.

Companies must take appropriate advice on a timely basis to ensure that these packages are aligned with their overall remuneration strategy, support their business goals and are competitive but fair, delivering the results that employees, the board and shareholders all expect. This needs to be done without falling foul of tax, legal or accounting issues.
