- successfully resisting a challenge by a local interest group to the grant of planning permission to our client, Argent, for the redevelopment of Kings Cross, one of the most high-profile urban regeneration schemes in Europe
Financial Services and tax
- acting for an interested party in judicial review proceedings challenging HM Treasury's vires under the European Communities Act 1972 to make regulations in relation to financial collateral transactions
- successfully resisting the first ever judicial review challenge to the Financial Services Complaints Commissioner
- acting for cross-channel ferry operators in successfully resisting a challenge by Eurotunnel to the continuation of the EU duty-free regime
Projects and procurement
- acting for a central government department in relation to judicial review and procurement challenges to the procurement of a major PFI project, including applications for interim relief and jurisdictional disputes
- acting for Tube Lines, one of the two private sector PPP consortia responsible for the renewal and maintenance of the London Underground network, in the unsuccessful judicial review challenge to the PPP brought by the (then) Mayor of London and Transport for London

- acting for a major mobile telecoms operator in parallel proceedings before the Administrative Court and Competition Appeal Tribunal in relation to the proposed auction by Ofcom of 4G radio spectrum, including an appeal to the Court of Appeal on jurisdictional matters
- acting for Ofgem in successfully resisting the first ever Energy Code Modification Appeal to the Competition Commission

- acting for the British Casino Association (representing over 90% of the UK industry) in a high-profile challenge to the introduction of "super-casinos"
- achieving a landmark victory for a number of UK tobacco companies in judicial review proceedings seeking the annulment of an EU Directive on tobacco advertising on the basis of lack of legislative competence, following a reference to the ECJ and an application for an interim injunction against implementation
- bringing a judicial review challenge to the Foreign Secretary's proposal by Order in Council to amend Bermuda's constitution to change its electoral system
- acting for the Law Society in judicial review proceedings challenging the legality of the Solicitors' Indemnity Fund on the basis of EU and competition law
