We act for clients in the public and private sectors in relation to the full range of public law and policy issues.  Our services include:

  • monitoring and advising on the formulation, development and impact of regulatory and policy proposals at a UK and EU level, including advising on and representing clients in formal and informal engagement with regulators, the EU Commission, Government departments and legislators;
  • advising public bodies on their policy formulation and decision-making processes, the requirement for and conduct of public consultations, impact assessments and other forms of stakeholder engagement and internal governance arrangements;
  • advising on (UK and EU) parliamentary and legislative procedure and legislative drafting and interpretation;
  • advising on administrative and public law issues, such as questions of vires, procedural fairness and the impact of the Human Rights Act, in a wide variety of contexts from PPP/PFI contract negotiations to bond issues;
  • advising on potential judicial review and other public law claims, including pre-action correspondence and tactical considerations;
  • representing claimants, defendants and interested parties in judicial review challenges to a wide range of policy and regulatory decisions, and other public law proceedings both in the UK and European courts (including human rights claims, public procurement disputes and statutory appeals); and
  • advising public authorities, applicants and third parties on information rights issues, including the use of and protection from disclosure under the Freedom of Information Act, Environmental Information Regulations and EU and international law, and acting in related complaints and appeals.
