Competition EU & Trade

Service areas

Lovells is a market leader in the field of competition and EU law and in related areas such as public procurement and State aid.

Lovells has competition and EU law teams across Europe in Brussels, the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, The Netherlands, Poland, Russia, Spain and the UK. We offer a co-ordinated pan-European service covering both EU and national competition regimes. We also have a competition law practice in China, Hong Kong, Singapore and Vietnam.

We advise on:

  • mergers, acquisitions and joint ventures under the EU Merger Regulation, as well as under national merger control regimes. We also co-ordinate multi-jurisdictional merger clearances throughout Europe and elsewhere in the world

  • cartel, abuse of dominance and other competition investigations. We have been involved in many of the leading cases under EU competition law since the early 1980s. We also have extensive experience in national competition law investigations

  • competition litigation before the Court of Justice of the European Union (both the Court of Justice and the General Court), where we have been involved in a number of landmark cases over the last 20 years, and at national level, where litigation between private parties on competition issues is steadily increasing

  • contract review and compliance, where our aim is to ensure that competition issues are identified and resolved at an early stage. We provide guidance and training on how to handle on-site investigations (or "dawn raids") by the European Commission and by national competition authorities and regulators.
