- acting for Statoil in its acquisition for US$740 million of 49% of BP's interest in the In Salah and 50% of BP's interest in the In Amenas gas projects, both in Algeria
- acting for Petro-Canada on its $840 million acquisition of Intrepid Energy North Sea Ltd (including a major interest in the Buzzard Field)
- advising Hong Kong Electric on its acquisition of a 19.9% interest in the North of England Gas Distribution Network business for HK$2,500 million (about US$320 million)
- advising American Electric Power on the sale of its Ferrybridge and Fiddler's Ferry power stations to Scottish and Southern Electricity
- acting for AEP in its £1.39 billion sale of Seeboard to Electricité de France
- extensive work in relation to the Gas Directives and the supply of Natural Gas to Europe
- extensive work in connection with the liberalisation of the European gas markets and energy trading
- advising the German subsidiaries of the two largest oil production companies in an arbitration about the exploration, production and production sharing of a gas field operated by a Dutch party and the compensation for excess gas deliveries of 20 billion m³
- advising the Singapore Ministry of Environment in the reform of the Singapore waste to energy sector, including all legal and regulatory advice, drafting of relevant legislation, licences and codes as well as advising on the establishment of an independent regulator
- advising on production sharing agreements in connection with the development of oil and gas production in Kazakhstan and the Caspian Sea region, Nigeria, Angola, Francophone Africa, China, Russian Federation, Vietnam, South Africa, Indonesia, joint operating agreements, cost recovery, local tax, farm-ins and farm-outs, the scope of development programmes, issues relating to pipeline projects and production sales agreements
- acting for an international consortium against an Asian government under the ICSID rules. The claim involves allegations of breaches of both a bilateral investment treaty and the Energy Charter Treaty. (As far as we are aware, this is the first such claim made to ICSID for breaches of a bilateral investment treaty and the Energy Charter Treaty, and the fifth claim under the Energy Charter Treaty).
