Career highlights

NEMGIA v AGF (1996) - the defence of a £300 million claim brought by the liquidators of NEMGIA challenging a series of reinsurance transactions made shortly before the insolvency.


Trusted v Clifford Chance (1995) - the successful defence of a disappointed beneficiary's claim against the solicitors of the testator on the grounds that the will should have been changed to include the claimants.


Accident Assistance Ltd v HSE (2005) - the successful defence of a substantial professional negligence claim against solicitors arising out of advice on the Consumer Credit Act.

John is one of Lovells' senior dispute resolution partners with wide experience of litigation, arbitration and mediation, involving contracts, professional negligence, product liability and other insurance claims and coverage. He has also worked extensively with manufacturing clients, particularly in the motor industry.

He worked in Lovells' New York office for two years and has represented many US clients on international issues.

From 1994 to 1998 he was the managing partner of the firm's litigation sector. He is a qualified solicitor-advocate. He has written and spoken frequently on insurance, procedure and professional indemnity. He was Chairman of the IBA Insurance Committee from 2002-2004 and of its Professional Indemnity Sub-Committee from 1996-2000.
