Large scale advice to a major telecommunications company on their brand and trade mark protection via domain name registrations, strategy and portfolio; assisting them in meeting the registration restrictions worldwide.


Advising in the resolution of numerous domain name recuperation disputes in various countries (France, United Kingdom, Spain, Greece, Russia, Czech Republic, Sweden and Poland)


Provision of strategic advice to numerous clients concerning the protection of their IP rights in connection with the launch of .EU including filing of over 1000 domain name applications. Clients include: Abbey National plc, Amazon.com Inc, Anheuser-Busch, aniMedica GmbH, Deutsche Telekom AG, eBay Inc, Playboy Enterprises International Inc, and Underberg KG.

David is based in the Paris office in the Intellectual Property, Technology and Media practice where he has been for the last 9 years. He specializes in Internet related intellectual property, and in particular the protection of brands online.

David heads up the Lovells Domain Name Practice, which covers the registration, recovery and protection of domain names and clients' rights in over 160 jurisdictions. He also advises on web site design and development, encryption regulation and security issues, Public Key Infrastructure (including digital signatures and certificates) together with software licensing and development agreements.

David is a member of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Arbitration and Mediation Centre deciding domain name disputes between parties. He is also an arbitrator for .EU with the Czech Arbitration Court, a domain name panelist for .FR with CMAP (Centre de Médiation et d'Arbitrage de Paris) and an arbitrator for the Malaysian domain name .MY.

David is a member of the Society for Computers and Law, ECTA, INTA, Marques, and the Intellectual Property Constituency of ICANN. He is also a member of the Editorial Board of Trademark World and a regular contributor for the World Trademark Law Report. He was also President of the EYBA 1998-1999 and 1999-2000.

He has a Masters of Engineering from Birmingham University and a PhD in Physics from Grenoble, France.
