Conor Ward
Conor is a partner in the firm's computer, communications and media unit practising exclusively in contentious and non-contentious aspects of computers and communications law; work has included advising in relation to numerous outsourcing transactions including the outsourcing of telecommunications operations on a global basis (acting for the telecommunications provider) and on the outsourcing of IT and telecommunications services in a £1.5 billion contract (acting for the user), systems development contracts (including call centre development projects) as well as acting for clients in various disputes involving failed development projects (including several failed billing system projects, a failed call centre project, and a dispute relating to the intelligent building system operating a Worldwide Cargo centre at Heathrow).
He also advised in relation to the two major prosecutions in the UK under the Computer Misuse Act 1990; in one case he advised the victim/financial institutions; in the other he represented the defendant accused of accessing US military systems. Most recently he has been advising a number of institutions in relation to e-commerce, digital signatures and the setting up of public key infrastructures. Conor is a member of British Computer Society's Legal Affairs Committee, the Computer Law Association, a director of the Federation Against Software Theft (FAST) and chairman of the Legal Advisory Group of FAST. He also holds membership of the British Computer Society's Law Specialist Group and the Computer Law Association.
