Neil Fagan has worked in commercial litigation for all of his professional career. He qualified in 1971 at Durrant Cooper & Hambling where he was also articled. That firm became Durrant Piesse and he was made a partner in the firm in 1975. He became a partner in Lovell White Durrant (now Lovells) when Durrant Piesse merged with Lovell, White & King in 1988.
Neil spent some years in the 1980s specialising in industrial relations and human resources work during which he conducted many cases in tribunals as an advocate. He has since concentrated on commercial/corporate litigation with an emphasis upon City and regulatory matters.
Neil advises on corporate commercial litigation, claims against financial institutions, investigations and inquiries, financial services work and other "City" litigation. For example, he advised extensively on pensions mis-selling issues. He also deals with a broader spread of litigation problems acting from time to time as a corporate litigation trouble-shooter, for example in relation to "board room issues".
Neil also heads the firm's Public Policy Unit which advises clients on all matters relating to Government and forthcoming legislation. In that capacity Neil liaises with other specialist areas within the firm if representations are needed to be made or cases articulated to politicians or officials in relation to legislation which may impact upon clients’ business areas.
