Lovells

Rod is an experienced product liability specialist based in Lovells' London office. He has been involved in most of the major product liability issues in recent times, including those involving products such as pharmaceuticals, vaccines, asbestos, tobacco, silicone breast implants, cosmetics, electrical and electronic products and sporting equipment. He also advises many of the world's leading suppliers of consumer goods on EU product safety regulation, risk management and product recalls. Rod has particular expertise in complex multiple-claimant litigation, and in cases raising international issues. He is listed as one of the UK's leading product liability defence lawyers in both the 2006 edition of Chambers Guide to the Legal Profession and the 2006/2007 edition of Legal 500.

Rod co-ordinated the major study conducted on behalf of the European Commission into the practical operation of product liability laws in each of the Member States of the European Union, and was co-author of the subsequent report to the Commission advising on the scope for possible reforms.

He has also been responsible for co-ordinating, on a Europe-wide basis, some of the first and the largest product recalls under the new General Product Safety Directive.

Rod is regularly invited to speak at national and international conferences on product liability, and his articles in this area are regularly published in specialist journals. Rod is the general editor of Lovells' quarterly publication European Product Liability Review, which has a reputation for being the most comprehensive review available of developments in product liability and product safety laws in Europe.

Rod is one of the few European lawyers to be appointed a sustaining member of the Product Liability Advisory Council in the US. He is also an active member of DRI's Product Liability Committee where his is the founding co-chair of the International Issues Group, and is a founding member of DRI's European Advisory Council.
