Greg read law at Cambridge University and then became a barrister, having been called to the Bar in 1981. Between 1983 and 1988 he worked in the Solicitor’s Office of HM Customs and Excise, first as a prosecutor involved in the prosecution of customs offences and VAT fraud cases and later providing legal advice on questions of VAT liability, drafting statutory instruments and working on the 1987 Budget. He left in 1988 to join Durrant Piesse (later Lovell White Durrant now Lovells). In 1989 he re-qualified as a solicitor and became a partner in 1993.

Greg specialises in VAT and other indirect taxes (including insurance premium tax, customs duty, excise duty and other indirect taxes) in the Business Tax Group. He advises on a broad range of transactions across the corporate, commercial real estate and financial services sectors and deals with different types of related litigation including judicial review, condemnation proceedings and appeals in relation to VAT, customs duty, excise duty, IPT and landfill tax.

Greg is a solicitor advocate and represents clients in appeals in the VAT and Duties Tribunal, High Court, Court of Appeal and European Court of Justice.

Membership of The Law Society, VAT Practitioners' Group and British Property Federation VAT.

President of The European VAT Club.
