Barclaycard on the acquisition of Providian's UK credit card business

Emily has always specialised in retail banking and consumer credit and has an in-depth knowledge of the industry in the UK. Emily has extensive experience in advising banks (including Barclays, Lloyds TSB, Egg, HBOS, GE Capital Bank and Morgan Stanley) and other financial institutions on the provision of banking services and both secured and unsecured lending to individuals. She has particular expertise in credit and other payment card operations and the Visa and Mastercard Schemes in particular. She has a thorough knowledge of the statutory requirements regulating banks and lenders and their activities especially in relation to advertising and documenting banking and lending products. Emily also advises on the development of Internet-based financial services for banks and other financial institutions.

Emily advises on debt sales and acquisitions as well as debt administration. These include mortgages, credit cards and student loans (having advised the Department for Education and Employment on two consecutive sales).

Emily has extensive experience in the data protection field and the impact of data protection legislation on credit card vetting and the disclosure of information to credit reference agencies.

She also advises on commercial contracts involving financial institutions, such as strategic alliances with suppliers of non-financial products and Internet services, co-branding and joint venture agreements and agreements between merchants and merchant acquirers.
