Career highlights

An arbitration under the ICC rules on behalf of a major Thai manufacturing group in a US$2 billion claim for breach of a Singapore based joint venture in the brewing industry.


Six concurrent arbitrations under the LCIA rules on behalf of a UK-based commodities group in a US$200 million dispute arising out of investments in alumina production facilities and mines in Kazakhstan, with related court proceedings in the British Virgin Islands, Russia, Kazakhstan, Germany, Belgium, Holland and the USA.


Two concurrent arbitrations under the UNCITRAL rules on behalf of a major Austrian bank against a state entity, arising out of banking investments in the Republic of Croatia.

Simon is a partner in Lovells' international arbitration group. He is admitted as a solicitor in England (1994) and an avocat in France (1997), and has worked in Lovells' London and Paris offices.

Simon has acted and advised on numerous international arbitrations under all of the major institutional rules including the ICSID, ICC and LCIA rules, as well as 'ad hoc' arbitrations, most often under the UNCITRAL rules. He acts for clients from a wide range of jurisdictions and industry sectors, including international investment, energy, banking and financial services, commodities trading, construction and oil and gas. He is highly experienced in all aspects of the arbitral process, from appointment of arbitrators to enforcement of the final award. He acts frequently on court proceedings ancillary to arbitration, such as jurisdiction challenges and proceedings for the enforcement of awards. He also acts on cross-border litigation matters before the High Court, and has experience of court proceedings in numerous jurisdictions. He is fluent in English, French and Italian.

He is qualified as a solicitor-advocate (UK higher rights of audience in the civil courts) and is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and a member of the London Court of International Arbitration. He is also an approved tutor for the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, and speaks and writes frequently on arbitration and investment protection topics.
