Career highlights

Acting for major life assurance companies (including Prudential plc) in connection with claims relating to the pensions mis-selling affair. Lawson acted in the first cases to be brought and was therefore able to help formulate the pensions industry's approach to the mis-selling litigation.


Acting for the Equitable Life Assurance Society in relation to its successful compromise scheme under S.425 Companies Act 1985 and related litigation.


Acting for a large multinational in complex multi-party and multi-jurisdictional (UK, USA and Channel Islands) proceedings relating to the alleged mismanagement of a listed investment fund, including claims for fraud, breach of fiduciary duty, negligence and misrepresentation.

Lawson is a partner specialising in all aspects of corporate litigation including post-acquisition disputes and warranty claims and contractual/commercial disputes. He has particular expertise in regulatory disputes and investigations, and in life assurance company disputes, including mis-selling claims by investors/policyholders. Lawson also advises regularly in relation to issues concerning conflicts of interest and confidential information.

Lawson's recent cases have included managing and advising on worldwide litigation and potential regulatory action (UK, Hong Kong, Dubai, Bahrain, Japan) against a major financial and fund management group relating to the alleged mis-selling of various investment funds and products, and advising a major international law firm in relation to alleged negligence concerning a complex securitisation transaction.

Lawson is on the committee of the Commercial Litigators' Forum, and is a Solicitor Advocate. He is also one of Lovells' two Graduate Recruitment Partners.
