After 10 years spent at the EU Commission, DG COMP, where he had been mainly in charge of merger and state aid cases, Gianluca left the Commission to become an antitrust and EU lawyer , based in Brussels, for one of the largest Italian law firms.
Gianluca has been representing industrial clients in contentious and non contentious EU competition cases, as well as free movement of goods and capita. He also acted for some NGOs in connection with EU OLAF investigations.
Gianluca acted for some important Italian clients before the EU CFI in Luxembourg as well as before national courts and is familiar with EU Court as well as Commission proceedings.
As to competition related issues, Gianluca has been advising some largest Italian trade associations on the antitrust risk, while he has been advising some local public authorities on how to grant state aid in compliance with EU rules.
He has been praised by his clients for "being excellent at evaluating a situation and at pre-empting potential obstacles" as well as for being a "creative and determined fighter" (Chambers 2007).
He wrote a State Aid vademecum which is commonly used by civil servants in public administration facing state aid issues.
