Lovells strengthens corporate commercial practice in Russia

19 January 2009

Ekaterina Petrova has joined the Moscow office of Lovells as a consultant in the corporate commercial practice.  Part of a team led by managing partner of the Moscow office and its corporate head Oxana Balayan, Ekaterina will lead the commercial law practice and, with support from other corporate lawyers will be responsible for its continued growth.  She will also work closely with the Moscow intellectual property, media and technology (IPMT) practice, headed by partner Natalia Gulyaeva, on commercial legal issues.   Ekaterina joins the firm from Denton Wilde Sapte.

Lovells' Moscow corporate practice has grown significantly over recent years and has gained a leading international reputation in the Russian market.  Consisting of a team of 22 Russian and expatriate lawyers, the practice advises on high-end projects across national boundaries.   Oxana Balayan is ranked as a Recommended Corporate M&A, Private Equity and Capital Markets lawyer by legal guides Chambers Global and Chambers Europe 2007 and 2008.

The corporate commercial team provides extensive advice on all areas of commercial law including businesses working together, ways to market, setting-up Russian operations, commercial contracts including distributorship, advertising, sponsorship and marketing and employment law as well as day to day operational corporate, commercial and regulatory issues.

Speaking today, Oxana commented:

"At all times in complex corporate transactions, as well as in the day to day operations, there is a need to accommodate strategic business requirements and ensure regulatory compliance in the changing legislative environment. Increasingly in the context of the current financial crisis many businesses will find themselves in a position requiring specialist advice and commercially orientated legal guidance.  Lovells is now particularly well placed to meet this surging demand in the market in light of our recent commercial expansion. Ekaterina will play a key role in heading up the practice and we are delighted to welcome    her to the firm."
