Lovells boosts its corporate and projects capabilities

International law firm Lovells has announced the appointment of senior consultants Terence Lau and Jack Su, and three other associates, Marcus Chow, Sunny Chan and Ivy Kam, to the Asia Corporate team based in the Hong Kong office.

Commenting on the appointments, Head of Asia Corporate Practice Jamie Barr said:

Terence has a wide range of corporate finance and mergers and acquisitions experience and will provide a strong boost to the corporate group, while Jack's considerable projects experience further enhances our already leading energy, power, utilities and infrastructure projects (EPUI) practice in the Asian region. "

New senior consultants:
Terence Lau, formerly a consultant at Mallesons Stephen Jacques and Herbert Smith in Hong Kong, has over 10 years of experience specialising in corporate finance and mergers and acquisitions. His experience includes representing major PRC organisations in their mergers and acquisitions transactions and capital raising exercises as well as multinational companies in their investments in mainland China. He has particular experience in share repurchases, and takeovers and mergers (including contested bids).

Jack Su, a US-qualified lawyer with 15 years experience in infrastructure projects in Asia, has recently joined the office's corporate practice from Simmons & Simmons. Jack has worked in Hong Kong, China and Singapore since 1991. He has extensive experience in advising major regional and multi-jurisdictional M&A transactions relating to energy, oil and gas, power and water. His practice also includes working with private equity funds and other financial institutions in various investments in manufacturing, retail and services sectors. As a developer and counsel for Vivendi Water Asia (now Veolia Water) and Sithe Asia for six years, Jack was involved in several leading water and power transactions throughout Asia.

New associates:
Marcus Chow, formerly working at Stamford Law Corporation in Singapore, has recently joined as a senior associate in the Asia Corporate team in Hong Kong. Marcus has significant experience in corporate and securities transactions.

Sunny Chan and Ivy Kam have joined the office on the corporate side. Sunny and Ivy specialise in corporate finance with particular emphasis in IPO and merger and acquisitions.

  • Terence Lau obtained his LLM from The University of Hong Kong. Terence qualified in Hong Kong in 1996.

  • Jack Su holds a Juris Doctorate from Washington University School of Law. He qualified in California, US in 1991. He is a Registered Foreign Lawyer in Hong Kong.

  • Marcus Chow read law at the University of Virginia obtaining an LLM. Previously he obtained an LLB from the National University of Singapore. Marcus qualified in 2000 at the New York State Bar and re-qualified as an advocate and solicitor of the High Court of Singapore in 2003.

  • Sunny Chan graduated from The University of Sydney where he obtained his commerce/law combined degree. He also holds an LLM at King's College London. Sunny is qualified to practise in New South Wales.

  • Ivy Kam gained her LLB at The University of Hong Kong where she obtained the Stikeman Elliot Prize in International Trade Law. She also holds an LLM at The City University of Hong Kong. Ivy is qualified to practise in Hong Kong.
