Continued International expansion follows recruitment in Japan and the US
Lovells has further expanded its global Intellectual Property Media and Technology practice with the hire of leading IP lawyer Krystyna Szczepanowska-Kozlowska. Krystyna was previously a Counsel at Linklaters and joined Lovells' Warsaw office on 1 January 2008. She was the 26th partner hire made by the firm during 2007. Lovells recently launched a patent litigation practice in the US with the arrival of partners David Leichtman and Veronica Mullally. In Asia, the firm has recruited bengoshi partner Eiichiro Kubota and his seven-strong team to the firm’s Tokyo office, in addition to opening a domestic trademark agency in China.
Enjoying an excellent reputation in Poland, Krystyna focuses on both trademark and patent litigation and also advises in relation to unfair competition law, domain name work and data protection with particular experience of the pharmaceutical industry. Krystyna will work closely with Lovells' Life Sciences group which is recognised for its leading worldwide cross practice area capability. Krystyna's recent high profile work includes advising a leading technology company on patent and trademark law issues. She has also advised a global pharmaceutical company on all aspects of their intellectual property rights and a financial services organisation on a high profile trade name dispute.
Commenting today, Lovells' managing partner David Harris said:
"IP litigation is an important area for the firm and the growth of our practice in Poland is part of a wider investment programme in the IPMT practice also demonstrated by recent hires in the US and Japan."
Burkhart Goebel, head of Lovells' global IPMT practice, added:
"Poland is one of the biggest countries in Europe and at the heart of Central and Eastern Europe, Europe's key growth region. Krystyna is a commercially focused lawyer with excellent technical knowledge and wide sector experience. Significantly increasing our IP presence in Warsaw is very much in line with expansion of the practice elsewhere, such as the US and Asia, and reinforces an already strong practice in our core market Europe."
Krystyna Szczepanowska-Kozlowska said:
"Lovells is recognised as the market leader for international intellectual property in Europe. I was attracted to the firm by its emphasis on cross-border work, its commitment to building a strong platform in Poland and Central and Eastern Europe, and potential to cross sell into the firm's offices in Asia and the US. I am looking forward to playing a part in such a reputable and dedicated practice."
