We are undertaking a major survey of general counsel in around 180 of the largest companies in France, Germany, Italy, The Netherlands and the UK.  The findings are scheduled to be released in November.

The focus of the research is on the impact and management of litigation risk and its linkage to the rest of the business. It will cover topics such as the priorities for in-house counsel, how multi-jurisdictional disputes are handled, and emergent trends and best practice in dispute resolution.

We have commissioned an external agency to undertake the research and all the information provided is treated as confidential and non-attributable.  The research agency has selected the potential respondents from publicly available information, for example FTSE 350 or equivalent.  Interviews will be carried out by telephone and last approximately 20 minutes.

Comment: Many of our competitors are already using this type of research very successfully to generate profile and new business opportunities and to reinforce their position as key players in dispute resolution and other practice areas.  It is intended that the research will give us material to support both profile raising PR activity and business development for our European DR practice by, for example, generating media coverage and providing opportunities for seminars and targeted client meetings around the 'hot topics' identified by the research.
