International law firm Lovells has chosen litigator Ruth Grant to succeed Russell Sleigh as Regional Managing Partner, London - a key post in the firm's International Executive. Ruth will serve for a three year term beginning on 1 November 2005.
As Regional Managing Partner, London, Ruth will have overall responsibility for the firm's London practice, which comprises just under half of the firm's partners and other fee earners in the international firm. She will be a member of the firm's International Executive, which has responsibility for developing Lovells' strategy across its practice areas and regions and for the full range of business-driving issues.
Ruth Grant (48) has been a partner at Lovells since 1992. She specialises in dispute resolution work, particularly in the fields of product liability and professional negligence, and has more than twenty years' experience handling disputes for commercial clients in the High Court in London and working with US lawyers in proceedings in the US for UK clients. She currently heads one of the London litigation groups and is a member of Lovells' Partnership Council and New Partner Committee, posts she will relinquish when she joins the International Executive.
Ruth's appointment follows a consultation with the Partnership led by Lovells' Managing Partner, David Harris, and a vote by the partnership which closed on 25 October 2005.
Commenting on the outcome, David Harris said:
"Lovells' practice in London is central to the firm's overall success, so this is a particularly significant appointment. Ruth has excellent management credentials as well as commanding considerable respect as a practitioner. I look forward to working closely with Ruth in driving forward the further development of the London practice and achieving yet greater success."
Ruth Grant commented:
"One of my top priorities will be to help increase our market share here in London, working closely with practice stream leaders to ensure strong momentum behind current and future initiatives. In addition it is my aim that the London office continues to perform well as a fully integrated part of our international practice."
