Sino-Global Legal Alliance (SGLA) launches new website

Lovells is delighted to announce the launch of the Sino-Global Legal Alliance's new website.

Commenting on the website, Lovells' Beijing Managing Partner and Chairman of the SGLA, Robert Lewis said:

"We hope the website will provide our international clients with the information they need to work with the SGLA in China.

Over the course of the past year we have seen a tremendous interest in the SGLA, which has yielded an impressive deal flow for us and the member firms.

The website represents the second stage of developing the SGLA - whilst we still need to communicate our value proposition, one year since launch we are able to demonstrate this with tangible examples.

We look forward to developing the website to add more value for our clients. The highly acclaimed SGLA Law Journal will be made available as an e-version through the website next year."

Since inception, Lovells and the SGLA member firms have worked together on a wide range of headline deals, including:

  • Advising the Court Appointed Receivers of 13 offshore holding companies involved in the international dispute between Group Danone and the Wahaha Group
  • Acted for consortium of US hedge funds and private equity funds in successful bid to acquire a 30% interest in Northeast China machine tool group through public auction for purchase price in excess of RMB 1 billion
  • Representing BASF in lawsuit against the Tianjin Jingjin Pesticide Factory and its distributors/affiliates, for trademark and patent infringement
  • Acting for a leading international engineering company in respect of its acquisition of a heavy equipment manufacturer in Sichuan
  • Advising the Provisional Liquidators of a leading luxury watch manufacturer Peace Mark (Holdings) Limited and its subsidiaries
  • Advising on a significant real estate project and a chemical plant project in Chengdu

The SGLA is a ground-breaking association of leading domestic law firms across all key regions of China and Lovells LLP. Formed in the fall of 2007, the SGLA has:

  • more than 1,200 lawyers in China across 12 major cities;
  • 10 award-winning Chinese law firms and Lovells (named top international law firm in China for 2008 by Asian Legal Business); and
  • a full range of legal services on offer including corporate and commercial, litigation and arbitration, intellectual property, infrastructure projects and financial services.

No one else in China can offer this combination of international and domestic legal services, with unmatched on-the-ground resources and unparallel government relations, across all key regions of China.
