The protection of human rights is an important element of the Lovells' pro bono programme. We were a founding member of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office pro bono panel working to support British nationals who are detained and sentenced abroad.
We have also been co ordinator of the Trinidad and Tobago panel of solicitors for over 12 years acting for prisoners sentenced to death who wish to bring appeals before the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council and the international human rights bodies. We have developed expertise in advising on applications to the UN treaty bodies and thematic mechanisms, and regularly draft amicus curiae in relation to death penalty appeals going before the US Supreme Court and US Court of Appeals.
