As Senior Partner of the first City law firm to establish a formal pro bono commitment, I am proud that we have led the way in developing an active employee engagement programme which contributes to the professional development of our staff, as well as delivering on a commitment to provide effective legal advice to those in need.
Each year Lovells' offices worldwide provide over 14,000 hours of free legal advice valued at £4 million to over 200 charities and community organisations. We have the privilege of working with some of the leaders in the not-for-profit sector, including, for example, in the UK, Community Links and Beatbullying and, internationally, the Make A Wish Foundation and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office Pro bono Panel.
We often work on projects to help relieve social disadvantage in conjunction with some of our major commercial clients. The strength of our Pro Bono programme lies in the high standards of professionalism, clarity and practical legal advice for which we are known in our commercial work, being applied equally rigorously and enthusiastically to the firm's pro bono practice. We recognise that a pro bono commitment is integral to the values of our firm.
